Jui Tui Shrine Phuket

Jui Tui Shrine Phuket

Jui Tui Shrine or JuiTui Tao Bo Geng is a Chinese shrine located in Koh Phuket. Originally, “Jui” in Chinese means water. For “Tui,” it means a white mortar. In the past, a wide canal that can contain a great quantity of water was situated in front of the shrine. Villagers agreed to build turbines in order to use the water power to pound rice after having harvested. This is the origin of the name of the shrine. This shrine usually holds a vegetarian festival in which Phuket people, Chinese, Thai people participate together with the Chinese Opera Troupe. Several Phuket people have studied and attended many ceremonies since the first day until the last day of the festival. In this festival, Go Teng Pillar is annually inaugurated. In addition, 9 Chinese lanterns will be lit, which symbolically means that the vegetarian festival has commenced. Several religion-related performances to show the divine power such as the spiritual mediation, walking on fire, expelling bad things by bathing in boiling oil, a ceremony to pay respect to gods as well as a procession along roads are held. The festival lasts for 9 days. If you pay a visit in the shrine, you will sense a great atmosphere possessing the magnificent national work of art and culture. The red and golden color is highlighted so as to give a sense of luxury and to bring good luck, according to the Chinese. Moreover, statues of Chinese gods are there for the public to pay a respect to. This shrine is located in SoiPuthorn next to Pudjo Shrine. According to the history of this shrine, it is related to Bang Niew Shrine; that is to say, after the fire had broken out at the shrine in SoiRommanee, some leaders decided to separate and established a shrine in the area of Ban Bang Niew which is nowadays Bang Niew Shrine.

Chino-Portugal Architecture Building Phuket

Chino-Portugal Architural Building Phuket

Phuket is one of the oldestcities with a long history in Thailand. This old town used to be the important port of the west of Malay Peninsula where Chinese people from oversea came for settling business and where cassiterite can be found. Phuket used to be ruled by the western both Portugal and Holland. This is why Phuket becomes major growing community and becomes the meeting location for those two major cultures from two different countries.
The old buildings situated in Phuket town certainly represent the prosperity of the culture. These old buildings have been constructed more than hundred years since the mining business was popular. The architectural style is European mixed with Chinese modern called “Sino-Portuguese” style; it is often a medium single or two-storied building with more area inside than the wideness. From the tiles, doors, perforated windows to other details, they are all influenced by Chinese and European style mixed together. You can visit these buildings at Thalang road, Deebook road, PhangNga road, Yaowarat road and Krabi road.
These buildings are not only the symbol of Phuket town, but are also part of local people’s daily lives until the present. They function as a city hall, provincial court, Siam City Bank, office places and other residences; they are well taken care of by the new generation. Also, nowadays Phuket city municipal has provided old part of city’s walking route for tourists in order to appreciate these buildings and the daily life of people in Phuket. The distance for sightseeing the old part of Phuket is approximately 4.6 kilometers with short 6 routes. Bang Niew Shrine Phuket

Bang Niew Shrine Phuket

People call Bang Niew Shrine many names such as Tao Boo Geng Shrine or Arm Boo Tueng (Arm is the name Phuket people use to mean a shrine). Or it is commonly known as Dhebrasi Foundation or Chai Tueng Foundation. Villagers call it Tao Bo Geng. This shrine is considered as an ancient shrine as it was established in 1904. It is known that a Chinese opera troupe called “Gang Chai Yi Troupe” travelled from China to perform at Trok Mao Gao later known as SoiRomanee at present. At that moment, since there was a shrine located there, PraTienHooNguanSoi (Lao Yia) was brought for the public to make merits. Not long after that, a vegetarian festival and a tradition to observe religious precepts have existed up to now and villagers in that neighborhood have pinned such an unshakeable faith that a great number of people engage in the activities.Later, an accident in which fire broke out at the shrine occurred and no one knew the cause of the fire and a group of villagers decided to install PraTienHooNguanSoi (Lao Yia) at Arm Bang Niew (which is Bang Niew Shrine nowadays) and they co-operate to build a wooden shrine of which the roof is made of Nipa palm and 4-5 years later the same accident of which the cause is unknown took place. So, villagers agreed to install PraTienHooNguanSoi (Lao Yia) in the place opposite to the scene. They believe so strongly in the holy statue that the number of visitors has surged unexpectedly and the place become too narrow. The troupe led by KhunLerdpatarukagreew to expand the area of the shrine and transform the shrine into a concrete building which has enough capacity. The arc was built and carved in a Chinese dragon. Once entering the shrine, you will see two lion statues and the wall is colorfully painted as Chinese creatures believed to bring luck and tales telling the story appearing in the Chinese literature. In addition, every pillar is a dragon pillar, which makes the shrine look more colorful.

Ao Sane Phuket

Ao Sane Phuket

For tourists who love seclusion and peace, and seek a magnificent place that is free of people, Ao Len is an excellent target. It has a very small beachthat is not entirely white and the sand is slightly coarser compared tothat of other beaches. The beach encompasses a range of small and large rocks, is rather quiet and has few visitors. It does, however, offer facilities for tourists – accommodation at medium-grade hotels or in small bungalows can be found not far from the beach, and there is one restaurant.Ao Len might not be suitable for those who like nightlife and shopping areas. There are neither entertainment activities, nor pick-up points or taxis. In other words there are no facilities or amusement activities. It is not, therefore, appropriate for those who are fond of light and/or sound and/or shopping.
Although Ao Len is small compared to other tourist locations, itis just as good as they are because it is quite close to Nai Han beach and it takes only a short time to get there from the latter.
