Gem and Jewelry Museum Silom Bangkok

The Gem and Jewelry Museum is one of the tourist attractions in the category of museum that exhibits gemstones and jewelry. Located right in the heart of Bangkok’s prime area on Silom Road in Bang Rak district, the museum primarily aims to enhance knowledge and understanding, and to motivate youths and general people to recognize the value of Thai gems and jewelry. Moreover, it functions as the place for the preservation of gems and jewelry samples for the next generations.
The Gem and Jewelry Museum was officially established on Thursday,the 26th of August 2004. The institute invited Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra to preside over the opening ceremony in order to commemorate the Princess’ 80th birthday anniversary and for good fortune of the museum, staff, and all related people.
In this museum, gemstones and jewelry are completely shown with the concept that visitors should be able understand the origin of these gems from the upstream to the downstream. The exhibitions are grouped into several zones, as follows.
-Zone A: Origin and gemstone mines in Thailand
-Zone B: Gem and mineral classification
-Zone C: Diamond
-Zone D: Cutting and jewelry manufacturing
-Zone E: Organic gemstones
-Zone F: Synthetic gemstones
-Zone G: Gold mines and other precious metals
-Zone H: Fashion jewelry
-Theatre: Video presentationshowing the origin of gemstones from the extraction to the jewelry production. It also display a collection of fluorescent gemstones.
The admission fees are 20 baht for students (a student card is required), 80 baht for general visitors, and 200 baht for foreigners. Children under 6 years old, monks, disabled people andtour guide certified by Ministry of Tourism and Sports(MOTS) shall be exempt from all fees.
