The Queen's Gallery Bangkok

The Queen’s Gallery was officially opened on Saturday, August 9, 2003 from the initiation of Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit in order to be a space which displayed the work of Thai artists, especially the new Thai artists whose works have not been known by the society and the work of senior honored artists. Her Majesty the Queen has contributed her money to the fund which Mr. Chatri Sophonpanich, the committee chairman of Bangkok Bank, and the supporters have consecrated to Her Majesty in an occasion that she went to offer an award in “Bualuang master painting to be a model for the Foundation of Art and Craft” at the head office of Bangkok bank on June 15, 2001. The money received from HM has been used as a fund to establish The Queen’s Gallery Foundation. Mr. Chatri has renovated Bangkok Bank, Phanfa Bridge branch, which used to be Bangkok Bank’s Musical Art Centre, to become a modern art gallery. Her Majesty the Queen, with an honour of the art gallery, gave Her Majesty’s name to be used as ‘’Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit Gallery” or commonly called as ‘’The Queen’s Gallery”. There are four floors for displaying art exhibition and the 5th floor that could be utilized as activities to integrate the knowledge and publicize the precious Thai works of art to the society. Exhibition on different topics is displayed on each floor such as Bua Luang paintings and temporary exhibitions. Outside the building, there are a gallery shop that sells souvenirs from the arts works of artists, eg, T-shirts, programs, books and gifts and a gallery cafĂ© that sells roasted coffee in Thai-taste but Italian style, and provides confortable seats along Rachadamnoen Nok Avenue. The gallery is open from Thursday to Tuesday between 10 am and 7 pm, except on Wednesdays. The admission fee is 20 baht for students in uniform or those with ID cards. The entrance is free of charge for children under 12 years old, senior citizens as well as monks.
